What I thought about during a boring meeting that felt like it would never end
Is the flow of time really constant?Does it truly never waver?
What if time itself has fluctuations, and the length of a day is actually variable? Then every device we use to measure timewould be deceived along with us.
Whether we rely on the earth's rotation,or the swing of a pendulum,or the vibration of quartz—
if they all drift out of syncin exactly the same way,we would have no wayto measure the change at all.
And yet, as the one clue left to us,we feel a day stretch longer,or shrink shorter, than it should.
