A chess player, shining quietly at the edge of the universe

Say there's someone witha genius-level talent for chess, and if he were to play,he would be overwhelmingly the best in the world—unmatched by anyone, past or future.

And yet,he lives his whole lifewithout ever knowing chess exists.

Talent, I think,is more often like this than we realize.

Is that a sad thing?Depending on how you look at it,I think there's something interesting in it too.

Like a pearl sleeping at the bottom of the sea, undiscovered by anyone.Like a star floating in some corner of the universe, unvisited by anyone.

It holds value even without anyone to observe it—it simply exists.
